13 Days Myanmar Off-road Motorbike Tour

The highest peak in the Chin Hills is [Khonu Msung], or ‘ (Mount Victoria), in southern Chin State, which reaches 3,053 meters (10,500 feet). The Chin Hills-Arakan Yoma montane forests ecoregion has diverse forests with pine, camellia, and teak. Falam is the largest town in the Chin Hills, lying at their southern edge. The Chin Hills in the eastern part of the Patkai Range, which includes the Lushai Hills and runs through Nagaland in India, as well as part of Burma. The Lushai Hills are frequently discussed with the Chin Hills as the topography, people’s culture, and history are similar. The southern prolongation of the Chin Hills is the Arakan Range (Arakan Yoma), stretching as well from north to south.

Day 1: Arrive in Mandalay (no riding)  ( D )

Whenever you arrive in Mandalay our guide and driver will pick you up at the airport, bus station, or train station and take you to the hotel. You will have today to settle in and adjust to Myanmar time. We will have dinner at a local Burmese restaurant where you can meet the other riders and go over the trip ahead. Overnight at the hotel in Mandalay

Day 2: Mandalay-Amarapura- Sagaing- Mandalay Sightseeing  ( B, L, D )

In the morning we will meet the motorcycles we will be riding for the duration of our tour. The 250 is the perfect motorcycle for touring Myanmar’s varying terrain. The bike is light enough to put on a boat but powerful enough to make it up the highest mountain Myanmar has to offer. We will take a tour of Mandalay and the surrounding areas today and get used to the bikes and the local riding style. We will visit U Bein Bridge, Amarapura, and Sagaing, and have a sunset on Mandalay hill before going to dinner. Overnight at the hotel in Mandalay. (Riding distance- 95km)

Day 3: Mandalay- Pyin Oo Lwin ( B, L, D )

After breakfast, we start riding from Mandalay to Pyin Oo Lwin. Offroad touring around the villages and continue ride to Pyin Oo Lwin. We will go north zigzagging our way up the mountains and then arrive at the British hill station of Pyin Oo Lwin. We should have time to visit the picturesque Kandawgyi Botanical Gardens before sunset. We will have dinner at an upscale European/Asian restaurant on the lake. (Riding distance- 110km)

Day 4: Pyi Oo Lwin to Yangon ( B, L, D )

If we didn’t make it to the gardens the day before we will see them in the morning. We will also have time to ride around town to experience the old summer capital of colonial Burma. Then we will work our way back down the Shan Plateau (back-road this time) and have a spectacular river crossing on a small wooden boat. We will pass another mountain range before finally heading up a narrow paved mountain road to the small Danu town of Ywangan. The sleepy village doesn’t offer much entertainment but the food is good, the beds are clean and the showers are hot. Overnight at the hotel in Ywangan. (Riding distance- 175km)

Day 5 :Ywangan- Pindaya- Kalaw ( B , L, D )

After a simple breakfast at the Ywangan hotel, we’ll head east over another mountain range on an unfinished road that will take us through some tea-growing villages and cliff-side trails to a sealed road on the other side. We will then go to Pindaya where we will visit a famous Buddha-filled cave where legend has it, that a Shan prince saved a group of captive maidens from a giant spider. On the way along the roadside, you can see panoramic plantation fields of Cabbages and paddy fields. We will continue to make our way south through Shan, Danu, and Pa-O villages until we descend on Kalaw- a British hill station the colonial time. Relax at the hotel in Kalaw.

Day 6 : Kalaw-Meikhtila- Mt Popa ( B , L, D )

After breakfast, we will be on a downhill ride from Kalaw to Meikhtila about 130km. Then arrive at Meikhtila. After that, we will continue the ride to Kyauk Padaung – a small town to drive up to Mt Popa. Lunch will be at the local restaurant on the way. Then continue the ride to Mt Popa. Arrive at Mt Popa check-in at the hotel and relax at the resort. Overnight at the hotel in Mt Popa. (Riding distance-250km)

Day 07: Mt Popa- Bagan ( B , L, D )

After breakfast, we will be on a downhill ride to Bagan through a country road. You will witness local village life along the roadside. Afternoon arrives at Bagan and relaxes at the hotel. Evening we will take a sunset boat ride along the Ayeyarwaddy River. Overnight at the hotel in Bagan. (Riding distance- 55km)

Day 08: Bagan Free driving (B)

After breakfast, you will be free to drive around Bagan through Pagoda and temples. You may begin your visit with a stop at the colorful Nyaung Oo Market where every day the locals come to buy and sell fresh produce and other goods. Continue to the golden stupa of Shwezigon Pagoda for an introduction to Bagan’s rich history. Continue to Ananda Temple, an architectural masterpiece and one of Bagan’s most beautiful temples. built-in the early Mon style, Ananda contains two unique Buddha images whose expressions seem to change depending on the distance from which the statue is viewed. Overnight stay in Bagan. (Riding Distance-40km)

Day 09 : Bagan-  Mindat ( B , L, D )

After breakfast, We will cross many dry riverbeds and rocky hills on our way toward Mindat. We will cross the longest bridge over the Ayeyarwaddy River at Pakokku and ride uphill to Mindat. Evening arrives at Mindat. Check-in hotel and relax. Overnight at the hotel in Mindat. (Riding distance-200km)

Day 10 : Mindat -Kanpetlet – Mt Victoria ( B , L, D )

The hotel would have cut the power before 10 pm so we will probably be up quite early in the morning. We will ride the bikes back down into town and have a morning hike in the small Chin villages downhill from Kanpetlet. Our local Chin hiking guide will help us communicate with the villagers and better understand their unique way of life. After the hike, we will go back up the mountain, past the hotel, and into Nat Ma Taung National Park. Along the road between Mindat and Kanpetlet, we will make a detour to Mt Victoria(Nat Ma Taung). At over 3000 meters, Mt Victoria hosts a unique environment that contains much endemic flora and fauna. After Mt Victoria, we will continue to Mindat on a winding single-track unsealed road. We will make it to Kanpelet by sunset for dinner and stay at a simple guesthouse for the night. (Riding distance- 100km)

Day 11 : Kanpetlet- Magway ( B , L, D )

We’ll leave Kanpelet and go south. The roads are mostly sealed but there will be some parts that are under construction that can add a bit of challenge to our ride. We will travel through plains and rolling hills to the town of Kazunma Before we go west through a protected forest to Saw on the Chin border. Evening arrives at Magway. Free and relax at the hotel in Magway. (Riding distance- 250km)

Day 12: Magway- Mandalay ( B , L, D )

After breakfast, we will be a long driving distance to Mandalay. The riding distance will be around 320km. Lunch will be at the local restaurant. After lunch continues the ride to Mandalay. Evening arrives at Mandalay and dropped you at your hotel in Mandalay.

Day 13:Mandalay - Departure  ( B )

After breakfast, Free time until transfer to the airport for your departure.
